PROJECT COMMUNICATIONS:

Project updates, consultations and fundraising communications can be found below and we will keep you updated with photos too – visit the Photo Gallery page for the latest photos.

JUNE 2019:

We made it! After 5 months of worshiping in the church hall, the congregation gathered back in the church on Sunday 2nd June 2019. The Sunday morning service also included a baptism and the presentation of long service awards to four of our elders. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this project.

MAY 2019:

There was a slight delay to the project in May, but on the 31st May, the chairs arrived!  It was a last minute team effort to unload, unpack and position the new chairs in the church ready to resume worship in the church on the 2nd June 2019.

APRIL 2019:

And now the carpet is going down, the painters are in and the dust is gathering! The plant room is looking impressive!

MARCH 2019:

So there has been a lot on the go since the contractor, Fusion Mechanical Services Limited, started working on the installation of the new heating system at the end of January.  The underfloor heating system has been installed, the new floor has been fitted and the gas supply is just about to be connected. 220 chairs and a low tog carpet are on order for the downstairs sanctuary. The pews will remain in the gallery, but new cushions and carpet runners will be fitted. There was a healthy demand for the pews – the centre pews were bought by Glasgow Architectural Services and the side pews found new homes and various uses in Dumfries, Edinburgh, the Borders and the Lake District.  Rolf Buwert rescued the remaining timber and is busy creating small wooden objects which will go on sale later in the year.

JANUARY 2019:

It was a busy start to the new year!  On the 3rd of January we had a team of volunteers on hand to take down the Christmas decorations and to remove the cushions from the pews ready for the contractors to start the development work.  On the 6th January, we held our first Sunday service in the Church Hall, which is where we will worship while the work is ongoing. By the 26th January the heating and pews were removed ready for the contractors starting the work on on Monday 28th January.

DECEMBER 2018:

A few historical moments throughout December where we enjoyed the last of our Christmas services in St George’s with pews and cushions. Visit our Photo Gallery page to view the church in December 2018 and more photos of our last Christmas Eve service with the pews. Thanks to Allan Devlin for taking the photographs in December and throughout the project period.
