PROJECT UPDATE: MARCH 2019
So there has been a lot on the go since the contractor, Fusion Mechanical Services Limited, started working on the installation of the new heating system at the end of January. The underfloor heating system has been installed, the new floor has been fitted and the gas supply is just about to be connected. 220 chairs and a low tog carpet are on order for the downstairs sanctuary. The pews will remain in the gallery, but new cushions and carpet runners will be fitted. There was a healthy demand for the pews – the centre pews were bought by Glasgow Architectural Services and the side pews found new homes and various uses in Dumfries, Edinburgh, the Borders and the Lake District. Rolf Buwert rescued the remaining timber and is busy creating small wooden objects which will go on sale later in the year. The aim is to return to worship in the church on Communion Sunday, 28th April 2019.
PROJECT UPDATE: 1ST JANUARY 2019
The project will now start in January 2019 with removal of the church pews expected to take place in early January.
Church Services will therefore take place in the Church Hall from Sunday 6th January until further notice. Kids Club and Sunday Tots will take place in the Club Room from 10.45am.
PROJECT UPDATE: 26TH NOVEMBER 2018
The project has been delayed due to the lengthy process in obtaining the necessary approval from Dumfries and Galloway Council Building Standards in connection with Historic Building Consent and Building Warrant. The application was submitted on 10th July with final approval being granted on the 19th November 2018.
Our agent, Andrew MacOwan Associates Limited, is in discussions with the preferred contractor to firm up costs and agree a time line for a start date and a projected duration of the contract. It is anticipated that work will commence as early in 2019 as possible.
Worship will be conducted in the Church Hall during renovations.
An application for a gas supply into the church has been re-submitted.
A decluttering exercise is already under way throughout the church buildings to create space to accommodate the new plant room within the upstairs office.
Members of the congregation have been tasked with the removal of all the downstairs pews to allow contractors full access. It is the plan to have this task done in the first two weeks in January. Any members or friends willing to help with this dismantling task or interested in obtaining a pew should add their name to a list which will be at the information desk in the church vestibule or contact:
Should there be any deviation on the proposed time scale, details will be communicated via church news or the church social media resources.
