 Our Buildings

The Church is a "B" Category listed building near the town centre, being situated less than 300 yards from Burns Square, part of the main shopping area of Dumfries.

The Church building dates from 1843 - 44 and was remodelled in 1892-93. Although the main structure has remained unaltered from that date, many internal modifications have taken place, all necessary to reflect the ever changing needs of the Church in a changing community.

The main doors of the church lead into a large foyer which is not only used for meeting informally, but also contains notice boards and an information desk which serve to keep everyone informed of the work of the church within the community.
The worship area of the church was remodelled in the 1960s and is now light and spacious. It is equipped with sound and visual equipment and is used for worship and for meetings.

On street parking is available around the church location which is a great advantage to elderly and disabled visitors. The church can be accessed from street level allowing disabled access. Disabled toilet facilities are a relatively recent and valuable addition to the church facilities.

In addition to the main rooms there is a church lounge which offers an informal setting for meetings. It is used on most Sundays by one of our youth groups. The church office is staffed three days a week and provides the necessary clerical support for our activities.

The Church Hall, situated directly opposite the Church, was erected in 1961 and has recently been extensively refurbished, with the front section being almost completely rebuilt over the winter 2008 - 2009. The rear hall has been updated, and the whole building should be fit for purpose for many years to come.  Disabled access has been improved, lighting is better for those with reduced sight, and general safety has been upgraded. The main hall has a stage which can be partitioned off and is used as a separate meeting room. There is a second meeting room, which is adjacent to the Kitchen and is used for meetings and social gatherings. The kitchen is used at various functions to provide basic needs, as we believe food is a basic necessity wherever people meet.

The Hall is much used by St. George's organisations, and also by many other church and community organisations. As the church is central to any healthy community so our halls are well used by a wide variety of organisations, serving all ages, faith groups, and secular organisations.

Both the Church and Hall has easy access for wheel chair users, to be inclusive of people with reduced mobility, acknowledging their right of equal access to all areas of society.
